There are many rescue organizations that
go to the shelters and adopt a cat or dog before it is
put to sleep with the hope of finding them a loving home.
The average time the LA County Shelters
are able to keep an animal, before the county is forced
to euthanized it, is about 10 days. Often it is too short
a time to find a loving home for the helpless animal.
Many rescue organizations pay the adoption fee and temporarily
adopt numerous cats and dogs before the their final day.
With more time, rescue group then try to find homes for
them.
Our fostering program helps such groups
place a cat or dog in a temporary home as they work to
find a permanent one. A foster parents’ efforts will also
help prepare the animal for adoption. The average time
is 2 weeks to 2 months. You can foster an animal even
if you have a pet of your own.
